Noreen Towers community

The Noreen Towers community provides transitional accommodation for up to 14 families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.  The community includes fully-furnished, self-contained three bedroom units with extensive lawns and gardens, children’s play equipment, and facilities for parenting programs, playgroups, art and craft groups, and social activities.

The program aims to break the cycle of homelessness by:

  • providing high standard housing to meet immediate needs
  • working with families to find long-term housing
  • assisting families to address the issues that have contributed to homelessness including drug abuse, domestic violence, financial issues and stress.

Family support workers use a strengths-based, goals oriented, case management approach work with the families (and the children) to address the reason(s) for their homelessness (or the risk of homelessness) and to assist families to develop their independent living life skills.

Wesley Mission provides assistance to link in with generic community services, and supported playgroups to track and monitor the development of children in the program and to assist with parenting skills.  Typically families stay in the community for nine months while they work towards their goals.
