Radiant strength and hope poured from broken hearts as Geelongs third annual suicide awareness walk stretched along city streets. Mums, dads, brothers, sisters, children, mates and more bared and shared measures of loss and laughter 600-strong in memory of loved ones and powerfully illuminated the national toll which so silently outweighs traffic fatalities.
Brandishing teal balloons bearing heartfelt Texta devotions they pointed to the certainty that help is always available for the vulnerable.

We all have tough times and thats when having mates is really important. Things like difficulties at work or in the family, health problems, injuries, money worries. Sometimes the tough times seem to drag on, or other things happen that make them worse. And then problems pile up. When this happens, the smartest thing you can do for a mate, or even yourself, is to get help quickly. No-one has to face problems alone.

ATAPS Suicide Prevention Program
The ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service will be launched in early January 2012. The service will provide treatment and support to individuals at low to moderate risk of suicide or self harm at a critical point in their lives. Referrals to the Suicide Prevention Program (SPP) can be made between 9 – 3pm on weekdays.

Inaugural symposium on youth mental health

Australia is at the forefront of responding to this public health and social policy challenge and the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is playing its part by initiating the new Youth Special Interest Group for trainees and psychiatrists.
