Wesley LifeForce Memorial Day Tasmania
Part of the power of the Wesley LifeForce Memorials that happen in different parts of Australia is the way they provide comfort and connection in so many different ways.
The Wesley LifeForce Memorial in Campbell Town, Tasmania, on April 8 was no exception. The rural setting and the fresh country air provided a consoling atmosphere as a range of people told of their experiences of suicide and mental illness. People came from all over Tasmania to attend.
Mrs. Frances Underwood, the wife of the Tasmanian Governor, talked of her personal experience with a relative who had a mental illness. Robert and Ruth Morgan, who lost their son Matthew to suicide, told of their difficult journey and how they benefited from support groups. The Rev Dr Keith Garner interviewed Dr John Crawshaw about his response as a mental health professional when faced with the suicide of a patient.
Local musician, Cary Lewincamp provided soothing music fitting of the day. Greg Townley sang his uplifting, You Really Gave this Life Something.
Verity Tunevitsch led the flower ceremony and spoke about her work as a volunteer with Time Out House, a unique suicide watch program in Tasmania.
The essence of the day was people seeing that they are not alone in their experience and that there are others who care about what they have gone through. It was a valuable time for all of us.
The next Wesley LifeForce Memorial Day will be held at 12 pm Friday 4 May 2012 at The New Grange Meeting & Function Centre, 87 High Street, Campbell Town, Tasmania 7210.
