Wesley LifeForce Memorial Day Tasmania

20th of April, 2010
The first LifeForce Memorial Service for Tasmania was held in the centre of state at Campbell Town last Tuesday. Around 100 people attended from across the state, and very positive feedback was received.
“Very emotional for me? But good to share with others who have similar experience!” - Leonie
“Very appropriate. Very needed, very powerful. Thank you for your generous and thoughtful presentation”. - Marian
“So much needed, beautifully thought out and a real comfort to me, in spite of my tears at the balloon launch. Thank you so much to all involved.” - Ruth
At the end of the service, those who attended released yellow balloons when Rev. Garner had prayed the final prayer of blessing. A piper then played a lament.
The service was modeled on the Opera House event for people who have been affected by suicide and live in its heartbreaking aftermath, and for the community to reflect upon this serious social issue. It is a tangible reminder for those who have lost a loved one to suicide that they are not alone and that the community cares.
Rev. Keith Garner spoke at the service which was lead by Ailie Ward the presenter of ABC Stateline in Tasmania. There were also contributions from Dr John Crawshaw, CEO, Statewide & Mental Health Service and Sandra Littlejohn, who has lost a family member to suicide.
The event was organized in partnership with Lifeline Hobart, who provided a great deal of man power and the benefit of their local knowledge and relationships.
