LifeForce Memorial Service 2006
The LifeForce Memorial Service was, as always, very moving, especially when mourners cast sunflowers into the waters of Sydney Harbour in memory of the lives of their loved ones. Mrs Carol Garner, wife of the Superintendent, let a dove fly into the air as a symbol of blessing and new hope, remembering the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus in the form of a dove, God with us in every situation.
Each year, the numbers gathering for the LifeForce service are increasing, and Professor Ian Hickie, guest speaker at the service, said that this reflected more open and responsive attitudes towards acknowledging the effects of suicide and supporting those who are left to struggle with the consequences of the tragedy.
