Life Networks Hilltops

About us
Our network aims to:
- inform our community
- reduce the stigma surrounding suicide
- improve access to support
- maximise community resources by filling resource gaps
- promote holistic well being
- gain experience and tools for other communities to use
- provide a forum for existing organisations, and individuals, to develop collaborative projects in suicide prevention
- help develop better language for the community to understand suicide
Our activities
To fulfil our aims, we organise the following activities and initiatives:
- We run an annual awareness dinner at which we target a cross section of the community with speakers and information
- We distribute pocket sized cards with emergency numbers on it which are unobtrusive and informative
- We are hosting Father Chris Riley who will be addressing the community on his ‘Youth off the streets’ program at two different forums, plus ‘meeting and greeting’ with youth at a barbeque in the park’.
Activity highlight
The Annual Awareness Dinner is one of our major events. We aim to target particular areas of the community by providing information in a relaxed setting. We use local ‘heroes’ as the main speakers.
The project took 6 months of planning and was fully ‘mapped out’ and tasks allocated to most members which ensured participation from all.
The dinner helped educate the community on depression and suicide. It revealed how depression and suicide can affect anyone at any time. Service providers were also able to create new networks with the community.
Get involved
The Hilltops Suicide Prevention Network welcomes involvement of any kind. We are a wholly voluntary organisation and hold meetings once a month, which anyone can attend. If you can’t attend a meeting we are always grateful for any input or assistance. This group is peopled by the community and is for the community.
We meet on the first Thursday of each month at The Services Club in Young at 10.00 am.
