Rise & Shine is starting a new series where we look at the question of faith and women. To begin this series, Rev Keith Garner talks with Jenny Baxter, Editor of ‘Christian Woman’. She has used her varied creative talents in writing, presenting, producing on radio, television and print, to further God’s work.

As we begin on the series of Faith and Women, Rev Keith Garner helps us remember the rich and varied contribution of women within the Christian community down the centuries. In Romans 16 we find that half of the people mentioned or commended in ministry are women and, in verses 1-2 of this chapter, Paul writes on this valuable ministry.

This Sunday as we continue on our Series on Women and Faith, we meet Pat Rich, Christian author, foster carer and grandmother. Amidst a full life, with eight children of her own, Pat took on the responsibility of caring for a cotton wool baby, Lou. Lou in turn, gave the family the wonderful miracle of love.

Once being a survivor of the illness herself, Sarah articulates the dangerous and destructive nature of eating disorders and gives us much needed insight into how recovery is possible, with faith in God to guide and support you. Wesley Mission has helped many people to recover from eating disorders. As we explore the coming together of faith and women on Rise & Shine, we meet with a powerful example in Dr Jennifer Dawson, psychologist and CEO of TraumAid International whose life took a drastic turn as she began working with the people of the Republic of Congo whose experiences of civil war had left behind a shattered and traumatised population.

Wesley Mission’s Newcastle Youth Services gives us a glimpse of the importance of working with young people, who are devoid of stability and support. Our work there has been to engage, encourage and guide these teenagers to a whole new road ahead.
