We continue with our third interview in our series on shame.

Abused by a trusted caregiver from age three, Monique Lisbon describes “Shame” in her book as a “lifelong invisible companion”.

At the age of 21 while viewing the Hollywood blockbuster “Dead Poets Society” the true reality of her abuse began to surface.

The haunting familiar parallels between the leading actor to that of her controlling father struck her sub-conscious to the core.

Today we focus on one very inspirational girl.

Over the last 3 weeks we’ve talked about shame… In our final show on the topic, we talk to someone who spiralled into the horrors of prostitution and drug addition.

From a relatively normal childhood in suburban Melbourne in the 1980’s, Bronwen Healy’s path of destruction began with what was claimed to be one ‘innocent joint’ to celebrate her completion of high school.

What followed was the beginning of a life of shame of using and ‘doing tricks’ on the streets.

Shame can be crippling.  It’s just one area that our Wesley Mission Services puts abundant grace into action.

One of the programs that we run is a special program for women who have experienced sexual abuse.

You’ve heard in all in the media… greenhouse gases, our carbon footprint… post Copenhagen and what does it all really mean? And what are the real domino effects for us and our neighbours?

Just as we cannot avoid gravity while living on the earth, we cannot avoid the other laws of creation.   We meet up with the head of one organisation that is helping the poorest of the poor.

Here at Wesley we also deal with another kind of shift in our environment – our aging population.

More and more people are living alone & without support.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure there is care available to those who need it – let’s take a look at how Wesley Mission Home Care is making a difference in people’s lives.

It’s almost a year since Copenhagen and amid the intense scrutiny of arguments on the Climate Crisis and many feel disempowered or even sceptical of the science.

In our second part of a three part series on the environment we get down to basics.

Remember how good those tomatoes or green beans tasted at grandma’s place, or real home grown organic eggs? Or how about the smell of freshly baked bread?

We look at how one church on the South Coast is running it’s own campaign to be better stewards of God’s creation.

You’ve heard it all in the media… greenhouse gases, our carbon footprint… post Copenhagen and what does it all really mean?

Imagine life in 20 or 30 years. As climate change touches every aspect of our lives, how will it change us? How will we adapt?

Guest and Founder of Planet Ark, Jon Dee talks about the roles we should all play and talks about the way forward for a better future.

- Jon, welcome to the program.

Daniel Kay has had the opportunity to provide back vocals for Michael Bolton and Barry Manilow and in the early days he was part of the initial Ten Tenors.

Here at Wesley Mission we also focus on ‘keeping things green’.
For some of us, a job in open employment is not readily available.  Wesley Gardening Services is just one area that provides an opportunity for full time work and independence.
