'Uniting Church Moderator' - Niall Reid

In this week’s Wesley Impact!  we talk about Priorities in Life and focus on the Spiritual priority of connecting with God through prayer.

Guest, Reverend Niall Reid talks about his role and his life as he looks back upon the completion of the three-year tenure as the Moderator of the Uniting Church of New South Wales and ACT Synod.

He also shares his personal journey and battle with Cancer and his different perspective he has about the world. 

Niall shares how he came to faith as a young boy in his room. Since then he’s been on mission trips to Mexico.

Niall shares about his role about how to encourage the church and help pastors and congregations to encourage to live out the vision of their faith.

Wesley Mission – ‘Out of Home Care'

Prayer is a powerful way for all of us to connect to God.

In part one of this story, Vicki cried out for help after deciding to care for her husband at home after he suffered a severe stroke.

Wesley Mission’s “Out of Home Care” is working hard to meet the needs of families doing it tough.

Spiritual Priorities – Clint Beattie – “Into the Light”

Do you sometimes feel like things are spiralling out of control?  That God is far away?

On Wesley Impact! this week we look at our Spiritual Priorities in life, in this instance the importance of Solitude and taking time to listen to God.

For guest Clint Beattie, Solitude played a big part in his recovery.  

His book “Into the Light” shares his remarkable journey from terminal brain cancer, temporary paralysis and near blindness, to finding peace with God. He reflects upon how living water transformed his identity and made cancer a transition and not a destination. He reflects on the sovereignty of God and the transforming work completed on the cross at Calvary.

Clint was diagnosed with an Astro-cytoma grade 3 brain tumour at just 12 years of age.  He shares that on January of 1997, after treatment, was given just 6 months to live.

Clint shares with Keith his passion to share his story of hope to those who are given no hope, through a time of great pain and suffering.    Clint, now 29 has just been married and looking forward to a bright, happy future.

Wesley Mission – ‘Out of Home Care'

It’s true we can all get so busy in life, so much so that we seem to forget to take time to be quiet, to reflect or be still. 

Solitude is a powerful way for all of us to connect to God.

On the show today we share part two of Vicki’s story and her need for some ‘time out’ of her own.

She shares how Wesley Mission’s “Out of Home Care” is working hard to meet the needs of families – like hers - that are doing it tough.

A horrific car accident brought fears that she would never sing again.

Spiritual Priorities – Ian Watson – “Shed Happens”

When you sin, do you run from God? What if you wanted to confess but what if you felt so bad that you could step into a church?

On this week’s ‘Wesley Impact!’, truck driving instructor, Ian Watson felt that God wanted him to use his gift of communication with Aussie Blokes to turn ‘church’ into a fellowship session in a backyard shed!

In 2003, “Shed Happens” was born. The aim, to bring the churched and unchurched together to have a good feed and to do some straight talking about the issues that men face.

Wesley Mission has a passion to work alongside community groups to help invest time and support to younger generations.

Paul Morrison is a singer songwriter who also runs his own men’s shed in Perth.

He’s also a man who loves his footy and has taken on the role as Chaplain for the West Coast Eagles as well as being a worship pastor in his home church at “Riverview” in Perth.

Australian of the Year, Simon McKeon –  Spiritual Priorities – “The Power of Generosity”

When you think about the word generosity, what comes to mind? In any dictionary the word Generosity is defined as “the trait of being willing to give of your money or time.”

In this week’s episode of Wesley Impact! we look into “The Power of Generosity” in the Bible and how it changes the way we look at the world and how we respond to those around us.

We also discover that generosity isn’t just about money. It’s also about investing in people.

For Australian of the Year, Simon McKeon. His acts of generosity within his sphere of influence have made headlines, but he calls on all of us to use our talents, gifting and passions to make a difference in our world.

Known as a hands-on philanthropist, Simon McKeon shares his admiration of others who volunteer without recognition every single day.

Simon shares with Keith about the importance of “Generosity” and how his parent’s instilled the fruits of helping others from an early age.

Just like our guest Simon McKeon we also like to invest in helping people.  

In our Wesley Mission story this week, we highlight our ‘Brighter Futures’ program which is designed to support families and single mothers in dealing with issues before they reach crisis point.

Wesley Mission - Michelle Parish “Mentoring Report”

We see it in the papers, in magazines and movies. They all highlight the desires to strive to ‘Reach the Unreachable Star’.

In Wesley Impact! this week, we look at the topic of ‘The Fleeting Glory of Fame” and the importance of Mentors for up and coming generations to be guided to reach their full potential.

Michelle Parrish from our “Aunties & Uncles” program shares with us the report findings and how Mentoring changes lives.

Michelle shares some of the findings of the report including comments from clients. Girl Age 7: “Before Aunties & Uncles, I didn’t know people ate at with a knife and fork”.

Michelle shares with Keith just how important mentoring is to provide direction for youth which transforms future generations and communities to experience a different way of life.

At Wesley Mission we like to ‘stand in the gap’ to help create connections that can bring families together in a new and special way.
