There are over a million Australians who need your help
Right now, 2.7 million Australians are caring for a family member with a disability. 39 per cent do not receive the full amount of support needed.
Rushing from work at 3 pm each week day Penny picks up 17 year-old Will from the specialised school he attends. Will is blind with cerebral palsy and is bound to a wheel chair. Penny feeds, changes and bathes him and she gets up in the night to turn him to make sure he is breathing. Will stays in Wesley Mission respite accommodation every Thursday and two weekends every four months. You would think it would be a time of total relaxation for Penny.
Yet her caring role has seen Penny go through the pain of a divorce, and A few years ago she was diagnosed with cancer—a result, she believes, of the stress and strain that caring put on her body.
