Palm Sunday

Procession and Open Air Service

Sydneysiders and sightseers parted way as Wesley Mission congregation member Paul Cattanach dressed as Jesus and riding a donkey made his way around Circular Quay and back to First Fleet Park on Palm Sunday 2011. The annual Palm Sunday procession and re-enactment of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem drew hundreds of people and thousands of onlookers.

Jesus was joined by members of various Wesley Mission congregations who were part of the procession, waving palm fronds and celebrating the day. After the procession, the Rev Dr Keith V Garner, Superintendent of Wesley Mission led a service in First Fleet Park.

“The claims of Jesus are made clear in the week that changed the world,” he declared. “God loves this confused and broken world.”

Christian band, Iron and Clay, performed and band member Hannah Prince, shared her faith journey as a teenager including the death of her mother and the breakdown of her father’s second marriage. “It was the lowest part of my life,” she said. “The only thing that got me through was knowing that God loved me.”
