Holy Week in Sydney.
Holy Week was celebrated with a range of events and worship services. Easter Mission was marked by major events in the city, on national television and through the media and in services across a myriad of Wesley Mission congregations and centres. Highlights included:
Palm Sunday - Sunday April 17
Procession and Open Air Service
Sydneysiders and sightseers parted way as Wesley Mission congregation member Paul Cattanach dressed as Jesus and riding a donkey made his way around Circular Quay and back to First Fleet Park on Palm Sunday 2011.
Easter Luncheon - Tuesday April 19
He goes to the Cross despite his friends
Mrs Carol Garner, wife of the Rev Dr Keith V Garner, hosted the luncheon as a chance for people to enjoy community and reflect upon the message of Easter. Dr Garner spoke about the role of the over-confident and blundering disciple, Peter, in the Easter narrative.
Easter Breakfast - Wednesday April 20
The real debate on power
Influential figures from government and the business world were among the audience at Wesley Mission's 2011 Easter breakfast. Former Prime Minister John Howard and opposition spokesman on immigration, Scott Morrison, joined almost 200 guests at the Wesley Centre.
Good Friday - Friday April 22
Way of the Cross Procession
Wesley Mission's Way of the Cross Good Friday procession spread a sense of disquiet among those who witnessed it in the heart of Sydney's CBD.
Easter Sunday – April 24
Sunrise Service
As the sun rose on Easter Day, songs of praise from the Opera House echoed across Sydney Harbour. Special guests, Stan Walker and The Melbourne Gospel Choir sang with hundreds of people from all walks of life to celebrate the power and joy of Jesus' resurrection.
