Palm Sunday - Sunday 28 March
Procession and Open Air Service
On Palm Sunday March 28 we joined Jesus as he rode his donkey to the Sydney Opera House during tourist peak hour. Accompanied by a 40 person choir and colourful dancers, the procession travelled towards First Fleet Park waving palm branches.
Easter Luncheon - Tuesday 30 March
Faith which holds you firm
Easter Luncheon was a special time to reflect upon the important message of Easter - new beginnings.
Easter Breakfast - Wednesday 31 March
Faith which faces life’s challenges
The Easter Breakfast, hosted by David Greatorex, former chairman of IBM Australia, is part of a long tradition at Wesley Mission, bringing together business and community leaders. Rev Dr Keith Garner will speak about the tough journey of Jesus Christ and the relevance of that journey for us today. Glenn Stevens, Governor and voice of the Reserve Bank, will be our special guest. Find out how Glenn keeps his integrity, faith and focus while navigating Australia through the global financial crisis.
Good Friday - Friday 2 April
Way of the Cross Procession
Pitt Street was empty for the Good Friday holiday until the procession turned to into the street from Martin Place. The scene filled quickly with Jesus, the cross, Roman soldiers, weeping women, worshippers, the curious, and the media. There were people shouting abuse at Jesus and there was the muted murmur of the crowd. Carved faces on the walls of the GPO looked down to see the blood stained Jesus lugging the heavy cross.
We then made our way inside Wesley Theatre, where Wesley Institute students began the staged production, But for one man.
Easter Sunday – 4 April
Sunrise Service
As the sun emerged across Sydney Harbour, Debra Byrne, Steve Grace and Steve McPherson, performed live from the Sydney Opera House, joining with Wesley Institute choir and hundreds of congregational voices, to celebrate the power and joy of Jesus’ resurrection.
