Wesley Fair 2011
Another fabulous Fair
The rain may have kept a few people away, but the 98th Wesley Fair was a great success, raising more than $23,500 for the Noreen Towers community (this figure is expected to increase).
Stalls included our ever-popular food, sweets, books and handicrafts, with amazing bargains to be had in the fashion hall and treats in the form of a chocolate fountain and mini-manicure table. A new feature was our silent auction, at which fairgoers (very quietly) bid for high-quality donated items including a bouquet from Petals, our Wesley Flowers supplier, and a divinely gorgeous cake from Peek-a-boo Party Cakes.
This year we were lucky enough to have volunteers from Insurance Australia Group, Lexus-Nexus and the National Australia Bank, who bravely took on all sorts of odd jobs (our three lovely clowns from Lexus-Nexus stood outside in the cold almost all morning giving out flyers!). We received free advertising from MX newspaper, chocolate from Lindt, coffee from Republica Fair Trade Coffee and soft drinks from Coca-Cola. This was in addition to volunteers from Wesley Mission church communities, School for Seniors and staff from Carlingford, Lifeline Sutherland and other centres who all went beyond the call of duty to set up, run the day, and then dismantle it all at the end.
For those of you wondering what happened to all the goodies left over at the end of the day, it was a triumph of recycling: leftover books were returned to Lifeline, leftover plants were sent to Wesley Gardening Services in Dundas, while Newcastle Retail took the remaining bric-a-brac, homewares, toys and fashion.

Our 2011 fundraising target
We did it! - Our goal this year was to raise $68,000 for the Noreen Towers community, which provides supported accommodation for homeless families. We will employ a part-time children’s worker to run breakfast and homework clubs, redecorate several of the units and provide a storage shed. Thank you for helping us reach our target!.
