What is payroll giving?
Payroll giving is a program where employees are able to donate to a charity of their choice, through their employer on a regular basis via their pre-tax pay.

How can I start donating through payroll giving?
a.  If your employer has a payroll giving program in place
1. Contact your payroll representative to find out if Wesley Mission is registered as a beneficiary.
2. If we are registered, complete a donor form and simply nominate Wesley Mission as your charity of choice.
3. The amount specified will be deducted from your pay. You can simply join, alter or withdraw anytime.

b. If your employer doesn’t have a payroll giving program in place
1. Complete the payroll giving form or email your enquiry to payrollgiving@wesleymission.org.au
2. We will take your details and talk to your employer about starting a payroll giving program.
3. Once this has been set up, you’ll be notified and you can start donating to Wesley Mission via your pre-tax pay.

What’s the difference between payroll and regular giving?
Payroll giving is deducted pre-tax from your salary through your employer on a regular basis. This means that it will cost you less to give more to Wesley Mission. For example, if you want to donate $100 per month to Wesley Mission from your pre-tax salary, it will only cost you $67.50 (assuming a marginal tax rate of 32.5%).

Regular giving on the other hand is automatic monthly after tax deduction which you arrange directly with the charity organisation.

For advice on tax rates, visit the Australian Taxation Office.

What is the benefit of payroll giving?
There are many benefits:

  • You can just set and forget. Once it is set up with your payroll department you can start making simple, ongoing, tax-deductible donations to Wesley Mission.
  • Your pre-tax donation is worth a lot more than after tax donation i.e. you receive a tax benefit at the point of giving.
  • It’s a cost-saving way to donate because your donation does not create more paperwork.
  • Sometimes your employer will match your donation which means that the charity is able to give back more to the community in the work that they do.
  • It’s safe and secure as your donation comes straight from your salary therefore you don’t need to give out your bank details.

What is matched giving?
Matched giving programs are when organisations offer dollar matching for employees’ donations.

Can I sign-up online?
You may sign-up online to our general regular giving program, which will deduct the amount automatically from your credit card or bank account. However, unlike payroll giving this is not a pre-tax deduction. With regular giving you will receive a consolidated tax receipt at the end of the financial year.

What communication will I receive from Wesley Mission?
You’ll receive a quarterly newsletter via email or mail to update you about our work.

What do I do if I want to stop donating?
You’ll need to contact your payroll representative to cancel.

Does Wesley Mission send receipts for my donations?
No, you won’t receive receipts from us, but at the end of financial year, your PAYG summary should contain the necessary donation information to be used for tax return. Alternatively the payroll giving service provider can provide tax statements for the total amount of donations you have given.

What happens when I change jobs?
You can still donate to Wesley Mission. Contact your new employer’s payroll representative and tell them that you would like to donate to Wesley Mission via payroll giving.

How much does it cost to sign-up?
It won't cost you anything to sign up.

How does my donation support Wesley Mission?

  • People who are homeless.
  • Families at risk of breaking down or in crisis.
