Lifeline Bookfair
Lifeline
- One Off Project
- 23, 24, 27 October 2008
- Physically fit
Lifeline provides an invaluable community safety net for people in crisis whatever the time of day or night. Lifeline saves lives. Thousands of people ring every year desperate for a reason to live.
The annual Lifeline Bookfair supports training, supervision and telephone and face-to-face counselling volunteers to ensure that we are there for over 22,000 people who contact us each year.
If you are a strong and fit book lover, we urgently need your help. You will assist with preparation of the annual Lifeline Bookfair by unloading and distributing cartons of books at the Bookfair venue and then by placing the books on their allocated subject tables. At the conclusion of the Bookfair, you will repack unsold items and prepare them for transport back to the Bookfair storage area.
We need your assistance all day on Thursday 23 October 2008, on Friday morning 24 October 2008 and on Monday morning 27 October 2008.
All applicants need to be able to read and sort English book titles. The Bookfair is presented in an environment that is very satisfying to book lovers and to those who wish to assist and support Lifeline's efforts to raise funds and to increase its profile in the community.

Through this service we are able to offer information, support and referral to other agencies in the area.

Equip Youth Mentor
Equip Youth Mentoring Program

Training offered
-
Fortnightly - 4 hours
-
Influence others positively
The EQUIP Youth Mentoring Program matches adult volunteers to mentor young people who are going through a process of change, growth and development. The program recruits, trains and supports volunteer mentors. Any adult over the age of 21 may apply to become a mentor.
Mentoring is one-to-one relationship between a young person and an older adult who is focused on the young person's growth and development. It is different from counselling - it is less formal and more relational. EQUIP asks its volunteers to commit to meeting face-to-face with a young person approximately four hours a fortnight with regular telephone contact in between meetings. The mentoring match goes for nine months (though there are possibilities for shortening or extending that time period). The purpose of the program is to "equip" young people for change by providing a caring, interesting and positive adult volunteer mentor.
Current driver's license isn't essential but is highly recommended.
To apply for this volunteer role or for more details, please contact Karen Caceres on (02) 9628 0424.
