Camp Leaders

Vision Valley

  • Physically fit
  • 10, 11, 12 & 13 April 2012

Vision Valley is a conference and recreation facility offering a range of outdoor adventure and team building activities.

 We are looking for volunteer Leaders to assist us to lead our Operation Hope Camp program. Operation Hope is an early intervention program which seeks to build self esteem, heighten self worth and encourage children to believe in themselves. Through participation in outdoor adventure-based activities, team building experiences and other life-changing programs. At Vision Valley children are validated and affirmed as individuals who are valued and have a purpose.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in working with young people at risk in a week of challenging and exciting group work and outdoor adventure activities. This role is suitable to people who are patient, like working with children, are enthusiastic, physically fit and like the outdoors

Desirable: Completed or working towards completing a qualification in education, social work, psychology, outdoor recreation or similar.

The next camp will be from 3pm 10 April to 6pm 13 April 2012

Volunteers for this role are subject to a Working With Children Check.

Rare & Collectible Book Sorters

Lifeline Bookfair

    Lifeline is run entirely by volunteers to provide an invaluable community safety net for people in crisis whatever the time of day or night.

    Lifeline saves lives. Thousands of people ring Lifeline every year desperate for a reason to live.

    The Lifeline Book Fair supports training, supervision and telephone counselling volunteers to ensure that we are there for over 22,000 people who contact us each year. Volunteers are required to help sort, price and categorise books for the Lifeline Sydney and Sutherland Bookfair.

    Must have some knowledge of rare and collectible books, however there will be computer facilities available for research.

    We would appreciate as little or as much time as you could commit to help us with our book sorting activities during the following weekly sessions:

    Mondays: 8.30am - 12.30pm

    Wednesdays: 5pm - 8pm

    Duties: Sort and price rare and collectible or "valuable" books. There will be a combination of personal knowledge and internet research that is necessary in order to complete the pricing of the rare and collectible books.

    The activity will take place in the grounds of Frank Vickery Village, Bellingarra Rd, Sylvania

Choir Tutor

School for Seniors

    'Learn as if you were going to live forever,' the saying goes. Wesley School for Seniors allows people over the age of 60 years to take a range of stimulating courses in great company - Languages, Music, Computers and much more and you can be part of it.

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and patient Choir Tutor to join our team of volunteer tutors. This is a 1 term (9 weeks) only commitment

Bookfair Office Assistant

            Are you a fun, vibrant and hard working or a student interested in event management and would like to gain skills and knowledge in working for a not-for-profit organisation? Then this volunteer role is perfect for you!
            We are seeking a volunteer to assist the Bookfair Coordinator with various tasks associated with Lifeline Bookfairs.
          Duties includes (but not limited to):
          Database maintenance, communication with sponsors and suppliers, drafting communications to Bookfair customers, volunteers & other key stakeholders, creative brainstorming regarding the Bookfairs and maintaining Bookfair social media pages.
          Essential Criteria:
          Experience working in an office setting, proficient with Microsoft Office, ability to prioritise and organise, good time management and have an interest in event management.

          This volunteering opportunity is ongoing and requires at least 9 months commitment.

    Tutors

    • Calligraphy 
    • Cake Decoration
    • Zumba for Seniors
    • Massage
    • Tagalog (Pilipino) - Beginners
    • Indonesian - Beginners
    • Russian - Beginners
    • Basic Computer Course - Beginners

    The school operates from Monday to Friday and the classes are held once a week for 2 to 2.5 hours for a term of 3 1/2 months. Craft workshops may be between 2 - 4 hours.

    Book Collectors Needed for Lifeline Bookfair

      The annual Lifeline Book Fair supports training, supervision and telephone counselling volunteers to ensure that we are there for over 22,000 people who contact us each year.

      We are seeking volunteers to help collect donated books from people in the community around Sydney from time to time. Volunteers will need to be physically fit and have own vehicle. We would appreciate total donation of your resources and time however, we are willing to negotiate covering out of pocket expenses.

    Bus Driver - Narrabeen

    WG Taylor Village is a beautiful aged care village in Narrabeen. As a volunteer bus driver for our village you will enable our elderly and frail residents live a quality life providing them with an amazing opportunity to leave the village for shopping trips and various outings.

    Outings are:

    • 2 shopping buses every second Tuesday
    • Afternoon tea bus twice a month
    • Lunch bus once a month

    If you have empathy with the elderly and a good sense of humour, this is the right activity for you.

    You will get to meet some wonderful people who really appreciate the time you give.

    Activities Assistant - Pagewood

    We are looking for physically fit and caring volunteers who enjoy interaction with seniors and who would be willing to brighten up our residents' day through leisure activities.

    This is a weekly commitment and is ongoing.

    Your assistance is required on Tuesdays to assist with in house recreational activities and serving morning tea. You will also be accompanying our residents on a trip to the movies once a month.

    We also require your assistance on Wednesdays and Fridays to accompany our residents on their weekly bus outings and recreational activities respectively.

    We would really appreciate your help on one or all 3 days, anytime between 10am and 3pm

    Truck Offsider - Newcastle

    Volunteer Visitor - Newcastle

    Wesley Newcastle Community Visitors Scheme

    • Flexible time
          We are seeking volunteer community visitors to befriend residents of nursing homes who are considered to be lonely and who would like their own special visitor.
          As a community visitor, you will be asked to set aside some time to visit someone in an aged care facility. Depending on you, and the person you visit, you may spend this time keeping each other company and having a talk; or you might decide to go on outings to a gallery or a park…or any one of a number of activities.

          Your visits will provide an important link between the resident and the wider community.

          The effort you expend as a community visitor, sharing your interests and time, could help an older person in an aged care facility to enjoy life to its full potential.

    Can you collect some goods for us?

      From time to time we require an able bodied to collect goods donated to Wesley Mission for Wesley Fair.

      The goods may need to be collected from anywhere within the City of Sydney and could be of any size - to be delivered to our loading dock in the city. You will only be asked to collect regularly sized boxes and bags with no heavy furniture.

      You’ll need a current driver’s licence and your own your vehicle that is roomy enough for these collections.

      Time: sproadic need - could be once or twice a month during week days.

      This is a very valued role that will help us greatly and allow us to reach those vulnerable in our community.

    Activities Assistant - Bus support

    Jam and Preserves Maker

    Have you got a flair for making jams and preserves? Do you know someone who does?

    Wesley Mission regularly hold market stalls to raise income for our services.  Jams and preserves are popular with our supporters but we have no-one to regularly make these for us. Could you make us a supply? 10 - 15 jars a month (minimum) would be a good start. 

    We are able to pay for ingredients if necessary. We need them to get to our premises in Pitt Street Sydney so if you can get these to us, that is appreciated.  If not we will try and arrange for someone to collect.

    Clothing Sorter - Newcastle

      Wesley Markets Newcastle provide those less fortunate with an opportunity to choose clothing, furniture and household items at an affordable price; and generate surplus funds to help support other areas of community work.
      We are seeking the assistance of a volunteer to sort items of clothing and bric-a-brac that have been donated by people in the community.
      Hours:
      1 or 2 days a week (Mon - Thurs 8am - 3pm or Fridays 8am - 2.30pm) hours and days are flexible to suit potential volunteer's needs.

    Choir Coach

      The residents, their relatives and staff at Vickery Hostel are coming together to start a choir group called "Rainbows and Lollipops". The choir is for fun, friendship and to enhance joy through singing. We are seeking the help of a choir coach to train us to sing as a group.
      We would like to meet on the 4th Saturday of every month at 2pm - however day and time are flexible to suit prospective coach's needs.
      If you have the ability to coach a choir group and the desire to see a group of enthusiastic people who enjoy singing, become a group that sings together, we would love to hear from you.
