A Christmas Space Odyssey
12 January 2009
Around 800 people attended the two performances of Wesley International Congregation's (WIC) A Christmas Space Odyssey Number 2 on 11 and 12 December held at the Wesley Theatre. The show was rated as a great success. There was humour, pathos, drama, music, dance, action, singing - the lot. Around 100 people were involved in the production. Many free tickets were given out and over twenty people just came in from the street. Scores of unchurched people attended.
The highlight was a moving scene in which the sacrifice of God's Son was described in the context of a tragic space walk. "It was really emotional," said one person. Another said, “The gospel was presented as clearly as I have ever seen in a play or movie.” Others commented on the vibrancy of the dancers and the outstanding solo items. A hit song was I'm dreaming of a brown Christmas, which the audience loved. “This was the musical highlight," said one man. Hendri Rahardja's rendition of I cannot tell was presented with a beautiful Celtic lilt. There was also a lively duet by mother-and-daughter team Su and Larissa Jacome of an original song written by Su.
Actors were Mylene Dizon, Rob Dowley, Ben Lewinsohn, Julian Lim and Livia Scarcella.
Plans are already under way for another WIC Christmas production next year.
