Equipping young people for change
17 February 2009
This is your chance to get involved with the EQUIP Youth Mentoring program. We need volunteers now to get involved in this new program that will help young people in the western Sydney area.
EQUIP is an exciting youth mentoring program that aims to equip young people for the changes that occur in their lives. We are looking to recruit volunteer mentors to be a part of equipping young people for change.
We equip young people for change by offering them someone to talk to and hang out with, who is not a parent, but who has age, experience, and maturity on their side and who can offer support and guidance. Mentoring is a one-to-one relationship with an adult who is focused on the young person's growth and development. Wesley Mission's Youth Services provide counselling and case management to young people who are disadvantaged or at risk.
Equip offers extra support to enhance that process through mentoring. Becoming a mentor with EQUIP is a wonderful opportunity to invest in the life of a young person. You may be one of the first people who have ever taken the time to listen to and encourage that young person, and you'll be making a real and lasting difference in their life by just being there and sharing your experience.
Before you start mentoring, you'll receive extensive training which will be happening by the end of February. You'll also develop great communication and leadership skills, learn more about the issues facing young people, and gain important insights into the youth sector.
