In 2009 vote Earth! - Wesley Mission supports Earth Hour
20 March 2009
Earth Hour is a global World Wildlife Fund (WWF) climate change initiative. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:30 PM to show their support for action on climate change.
Earth Hour began in Australia in 2007 when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with fifty million people switching off their lights. In 2009 WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH. To cast your vote simply switch off your lights on March 28th at 8:30pm.
Wesley Mission will be turning off the lights of our Head Office building at 220 Pitt Street for Earth Hour and we are inviting you to join us by switching off your lights at 8:30pm.
Why is Wesley Mission taking part?
We have a mission to build hope, honour God and serve people — particularly the vulnerable and those whose voices are rarely heard. The impacts of human-induced climate change will affect us all, especially the future generations.
Participating in Earth Hour allows us to practice ‘Joined Up Thinking’ with our neighbours in the wider Sydney metropolitan community and in other global cities. In this united symbolic gesture we will demonstrate how easy it is for us to be mindful of our resource use so that there is enough for everyone now and in the future. Earth Hour is one of the ongoing commitments Wesley Mission support in reducing our environmental footprint
