It's time to reassess our sense of worth

We must look beyond consumerism to find the true value of the individual.
IT HAS been just over a year since the global financial crisis swept through the economy, jettisoning jobs and optimism in the process. But now business confidence is at a seven-year high, consumers have reacquainted themselves with self-belief and couples are coveting bricks and mortar in the suburban sun.
Credit cards are out in force giving Christmas and new year credence to the prophets of personal choice.
Figures released by the Reserve Bank on Christmas Eve show that Australians owe $1.4 trillion while household liabilities have climbed to $74,000 for every adult.
