Never waste a crisis

Having rediscovered thrift, we were supposed to start darning our socks, taking our worn shoes to the cobbler, planting the vegetable patch. We were going to pay off that credit card, cook more at home. Having exposed as unsustainable our debt-fuelled habits, the global financial crisis was going to change life as we knew it.
