Good Friday 2010: Sydney city centre will stage re-enactment of Jesus’ crucifixion walk

01 April 2010

A public procession featuring a re-enactment of the crucifixion walk of Jesus Christ will bring the drama of His Passion to Sydney streets tomorrow, Good Friday, 2 April, 2010.

The event is organised and performed by students from Wesley Institute an interdenominational Christian higher education institute in Drummoyne.

The procession will begin at Martin Place Amphitheatre at 2.00pm and then travel along Pitt Street, ending at Wesley Theatre (220 Pitt Street) at 2.30pm. Media are advised to assemble at Martin Place Amphitheatre no later than 1.50pm.

As dancers, musicians and actors draw the Sydney crowd into the performance at Martin Place, Jesus is sentenced, and taken up his cross to begin his walk, which ends at the Wesley Centre at 2.30pm.

The full-scale performance of But for One Man will follow at the Wesley Theatre immediately afterwards, ending at 4.00pm.

Through drama, dance, film and music, But for One Man follows a group of actors as they rehearse for an Easter play and wrestle with the truth and reality of Jesus.

Travel with them as they go on an inner journey of faith to discover the new beginnings of Easter.

The play links today with two thousand years ago, recognising that so many people of the world are spiritually lost and directionless. It tells the story of a child born, by his Father’s intent, to be the One Man to bridge the fractured relationship between humanity and the Divine.
