Pastoral Highlights
After 27 years of remarkable ministry the The Hon Rev Dr Gordon Moyes AC retired. Dr Moyes began his ministry as Superintendent of Wesley Mission in January 1979 and retired on 31 December 2005. During those years countless thousands heard him proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and were assisted by the caring ministries of Wesley Mission.
To a gathering of 400 community, business and church leaders in Dr Moyes' honour on 15 November 2005 Prime Minister John Howard said, “The example of Gordon Moyes is a combination of a very deep Christian faith, worked through in a practical common sense and as circumstances have required hard-headed fashion, but always having as his goal the spreading of the Christian message”.
We thank God for Dr Moyes' leadership and for the legacy he leaves for the Mission, the city of Sydney and the nation of Australia.
On 5 February, 2006, we were pleased to induct the Rev Keith Garner as the Superintendent of Wesley Mission . The induction was conducted in Wesley Theatre by the Rev Vernon C. Prowse, Chairperson of the Presbytery of Sydney, Uniting Church in Australia. Greetings were delivered by Her Excellency Prof. Marie Bashir, AC, Governor of New South Wales and Mr Jim Mein, Moderator of the New South Wales Synod of the Uniting Church. The service featured performances by the Wesley Rotuman Congregational Choir, and dance students from Wesley Institute.
We thank God for Dr Moyes ministry and we look forward with great expectation to what God has in stall for us under Rev Garners' leadership.
