About Wesley

Annual Report 2007

Wesley Mission is Australia's largest Christian complex

Mission and Outreach Ministries

Badge with Christian Faith on it

The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives shape to everything that the church does. It lies at the heart of all its functions: evangelism, edification, worship and social concern.

The Gospel concerns Jesus Christ, his status as the Son of God, his genuine humanity, his death for our sins, his burial, his resurrection and his future coming in judgment.

The Apostle Paul said:
“I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes, first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”

The report that follows outlines some of the things that God has achieved in and through Wesley Mission in the year 2006-2007 as we have sought to proclaim and embody the Gospel. We thank God for the privilege of being part of the worldwide church, for entrusting with His Gospel and giving us the privilege of representing Him to the people of Sydney. We thank God for blessing our efforts and for the promise of His continued enabling and presence with us.

Graham Want
Pastoral Director

Highlights for the year:

2006-2007 was a year of outreach and change.

  • In October 2006, the Wesley International Congregation hosted the Global Leadership Summit in partnership with Willow Creek Australia. This two day conference was attended by 600 delegates from across Australia.

  • In February 2007, Rev Dr Les Underwood (Chaplaincy Coordinator and Director of Pastoral Care at Lottie Stewart Hospital) was farewelled after many years of service. Les left a positive imprint upon the lives of countless people who benefited from his wisdom and care. Les now serves as the Minister, Uniting Care Wesley Port Adelaide.

  • February 2007, saw the introduction of a new worship service – ‘Pulse – Heart of the City’. This contemporary worship service attracts an attendance of 130 each week.

  • In April 2007, Rev Doug Clements (Minister Wesley Church) was farewelled after 7 years of service. Doug is remembered for his commitment to the poor and marginalised. Doug now serves as the Minister, Newtown Mission.

  • Easter Mission 2007 was a wonderful celebration of the Christian faith. This week of devotional services, open air witness and public proclamation of the Gospel was centred on the theme “Characters around the Cross’.

  • The Wesley Mission congregations demonstrated a strong commitment to world mission and evangelism. In 2007,10 congregation members served as full time missionaries in East Asia and the Middle East and a further 6 are preparing to go. Congregations gave $220,000 in support.
