Family and community services
Reflecting our Christian mission we address the needs of families and individuals, providing care from early intervention and community or personal development through to immediate care in response to a crisis. Increasingly there is a demonstrated need to provide these essential services through community hubs dealing comprehensively with multiple issues and offering a complex and integrated range of programs to assist their needs.
Family and Community Services are comprised of the following:
- Wesley Youth Services provide accommodation and support programs for young people, 12-18, who are in crisis, homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Youth Services seek to assist young people to re-establish family relationships, connect with support services, and learn to value themselves and maximise their capabilities.
- Recreation Services at Vision Valley and Mangrove Mountain, such as Operation Hope, provide a safe, loving and challenging environment that enriches individuals, families and groups of up to 250 people.
- Out of Home Care (or ‘foster care’) provides short or long-term care and support services in a safe and loving family environment for children aged 0-18.
- Family Services offer family support work, after hours counselling and programs encouraging parent and community education plus early intervention programs for vulnerable families with children 0-8 years. Specific services vary reflecting the needs of local communities.
- Wesley Institute – an accredited Higher Education Provider providing courses to local and international students in Music, Counselling, Theology, Education, Counselling, Theology, Dance, Drama and Graphic Design.
- Wesley Vocational Institute (WVI) – addressing community training needs and a commitment to deliver courses to the disadvantaged. Training and assessment services are offered through five regional locations across NSW.
- Wesley Conference Centre – manages conferences for 10-900 people, with six adaptable function rooms and a grand auditorium. Its purpose-built facilities and central location make it a much-sought after venue.
- Newcastle City Mission Retail – staffed mainly by volunteers, the responsible for the collection and distribution of clothing, furniture and household items, donated by residents of the lower Hunter.
