Foster care services
Dalmar Out of Home Care offers several kinds of foster care services:
Temporary or Short-term Care
Temporary care is short-term, usually overnight to twelve months. Temporary care may be needed because of a family crisis or intervention by the NSW Department of Community Services, where a child has been removed from their parents while their long-term needs are assessed. At the end of temporary care, the child may return to their family or be placed in long-term care.
Permanent or Long Term Care
Permanent care is for children who cannot live with their families and need a family who will care for them until their family circumstances change or they turn 18 when most Court Orders expire. However, the expectation is that the children will remain as a permanent part of your family.

Specialist foster Care
Specialist Foster Care is for children and young people who are considered difficult to place because of their complex and high needs, such as challenging behaviours, disability, mental health issues or who are a large sibling group. It is designed to provide extra supports and interventions for the children and young people to assist them to achieve success in a stable placement.
Respite Care
This involves care provided for short stays (sometimes for a few days or a couple of weeks or one weekend a month on a regular basis). Resite care for families in crisis provides a break for stressed parents or foster carers. It can relieve a sense of isolation for families and provide a different positive experience for the child.
Regular respite foster carers are asked to make a commitment for 12 months.
