Budget Principles

  • Getting the most out of money calls for planning, discipline, looking ahead and behind at old bills.
  • Realistic written record
  • Regulate spending according to income
  • Review regularly
  • A family project
  • Spread out expenses
  • Keep records (incl. Certificates, wills, insurance papers etc)
  • Set goals - needs v wants
  • Don't rely on overtime or 2nd income
  • Make up your mind and stick to it - but don't be afraid to alter your plan if it can be improved
  • Don't run for cover if in trouble due to unexpected illness, accident or mishap
If at first you fail - keep going. Determine to succeed.
  • Remember the place of credit in money management: (i) needs vs. wants (two different questions) (ii) can you afford credit? (iii) credit is not - a way of beating your budget
