Structured Work Placement

What is Structured Work Placement?

Structured Work Placement allows school and TAFE students to develop industry specific skills in the workplace whilst completing the NSW Higher School Certificate.

Work Placement offers students a unique opportunity to practise what they have learned in the classroom and to experience the real world of work. In 2011, Wesley Uniting Employment expects to coordinate over 800 work placements from nine high schools and two TAFE colleges located across the Lower South Coast Region from Batemans Bay to Eden.

These educational facilities deliver training in the following Vocational Education & Training (VET) courses :

  • Automotive
  • Business Services
  • Construction
  • Entertainment Industry
  • Hospitality
  • Information Technology
  • Metal and Engineering
  • Primary Industries
  • Retail Services
  • Tourism and events

Work Placement is a compulsory element of these courses and syudents must complete 70 hours of work placement in order to receive their HSC in the VET subject.

Wesley Uniting Employment works with schools, TAFE colleges and "host" employers to coordinate and arrange work placement opportunities for Year 11 and 12 students who are studying VET courses as part of their HSC studies.

Host employers play a vital role in assisting young people by providing meaningful workplace learning opportunities and are acknowledged by the wider community as highly valued contributors to the development of youth in the local region.

If you are a student and are interested in discussing Work Placement, or if you are an employer interested in hosting a work placement, contact Wesley Uniting Employment.
