Best Options Youth Mentoring
What is Best Options Youth Mentoring?
The Best Options Youth Mentoring program commenced in November 2009 in the Eurobodalla and Port Macquarie areas.
Best Options aims to support disadvantaged youth by linking them with trained community mentors who support, advise and mentor them to either maintain or return to study or to gain employment.
Mentors are sourced from the local community and are provided with training in Community Services to assist them when mentoring Best Options youth.
Youth are engaged in training which may include:
- Safe Driver training
- "Str8 Talk" training program
- Career PreparationTraining
- training specific to gaining licences relevant to employment
Mentors are also supported through the program to access further study opportunities or to gain ongoing employment.
Where possible, mentors are matched with youth based on experience and skills sets. Examples of these include former nursing staff acting as mentors for youth interest in a career in the aged care industry.
