Wesley Gambling Counselling Services provides a range of services to gamblers, partners and families who are experiencing difficulties associated with the impact of problem gambling. These services are provided free of charge to clients of the service.
Wesley Gambling Counselling Services provides an holistic approach to gambling counselling where all aspects of problem gambling and its effects (eg personal, social, mental, emotional, financial, legal and relational) can be addressed.
- We assist people to overcome their gambling problem using specialised person-centred counselling techniques.
- We assist people to overcome debt problems through personal empowerment and, if necessary, direct negotiation, mediation or advocacy on their behalf.
- We assist people with information on how best to access the community resources which aid social, family, personal and financial stability.
- We provide information about the gambling industry in such a way as to enable people to understand their relationship with the industry.
Types of Counselling Services Provided
PERSONAL COUNSELLING
Personal Counselling is aimed at assisting the client to overcome their gambling problem. It embraces an holistic method of counselling, which includes strategies to establish and maintain change in regular gambling activity, as well as focusing on the underlying reasons for the development of problem gambling.
FINANCIAL COUNSELLING
Financial Counselling begins with
an assessment of the client’s financial situation, in particular, the
level of gambling related debt. Using a variety of strategies, in
particular, assisting clients to negotiate with their creditors, the aim
is to establish a manageable financial situation. Wesley Gambling
Counselling Service does not, however, provide funds to repay debts.

FAMILY COUNSELLING
Family Counselling focuses on providing counselling and support groups for families who are struggling with the negative impact of problem gambling. Assistance is also available to family members in situations where the problem gambler will not seek help.
LEGAL SERVICES
Legal Services are available to problem gamblers and their families in situations where funds used for gambling have been illegally obtained. This service is provided by Wesley Legal Services, who specialise in the area of problem gambling.
