Counsellor Training & Resourcing
About the Counsellor Training & Resourcing programme
This programme was established to provide state-wide training and support for counsellors working with problem gamblers and their families. The programme commenced in 1998 and is funded by the NSW Casino Community Benefit fund (CCBF). It is a free service for CCBF funded counsellors.
The programme has two main components:
1. Counsellor training. We currently offer experiential training for CCBF funded counsellors which introduces participants to a variety of counselling models and ways of supporting people with gambling related issues. The training is designed to enable participants to confidently begin working in the problem gambling counselling field.
2. Counsellor resourcing which includes the following:
- Group supervision is offered in five locations throughout Sydney and Wollongong.
- Regular practitioner's forums, a one day seminar with a variety of guest speakers.
- Publication of a state-wide newsletter which links professionals who work within the NSW problem gambling research and counselling fields.
