Our history
Wesley Mission has delivered high-quality mental health care to people in need for more than half a century. We operate private hospitals in two locations: Wesley Hospital Ashfield and Wesley Hospital Kogarah. Prior to 2010, Wesley Hospital Ashfield and Wesley Hospital Kogarah were known as Wesley Private Hospital and Wandene Private Hospital, respectively.
Wesley Hospital Ashfield
Wesley Hospital Ashfield was formerly known as Waddell House. It was established in 1946 to provide care and treatment for epilepsy and dementia. Waddell House became a licensed private hospital in 1956, and was registered as a private psychiatric and medical hospital in July 1984. From 1990 to 2009 the hospital was known as Wesley Private Hospital.
In May 1998 Wesley Hospital Ashfield opened a specialised eating disorders centre. The centre was renamed the Peter Beumont Eating Disorders Centre in 2005 in memory of the late Professor Peter Beumont, former Director of the centre.
In 2009 it was renamed the Wesley Eating Disorders Centre. Professor Beumont's research based holistic strategy of building long-term recovery by following up in-patient treatment with five and then three day patient programs continues.
Wesley Hospital Kogarah
Wesley Mission's history of providing quality mental health services continued with the purchase of Wandene Private Hospital in 1998. Since 2010, the hospital has been known as Wesley Hospital Kogarah.
