Treatment for service-related trauma
If you or your loved one suffers from the effects of service-related trauma as a veteran, the most important step you can take is to seek professional help.
Treatment program for service-related trauma
Our long experience in treating veterans has seen significant benefits for veterans and their families over the years. Our highly regarded day patient group programs are tailored to meet the needs of veterans with a range of psychological disorders. The programs run for two days a week, over several weeks and include the following day patient treatment programs:
- depression
- anxiety
- anger/anxiety.
The programs are run using cognitive behavioural therapy techniques, facilitated by a multi-disciplinary team led by a clinical psychologist. Cognitive behaviour therapy is a collaborative group process, encouraging veterans to participate in group discussions and practise new techniques between sessions.
These techniques include skills and strategies that can be used to reduce trauma-related symptoms, enable remaining symptoms to be effectively managed, reduce the impact of remaining symptoms and improve veterans’ quality of life.
Depression group program
Our 12-day day patient depression program for veterans is conducted two days a week over a six-week period. The program teaches techniques to reduce the symptoms of depression, and develop skills and strategies to manage the remaining symptoms. The program focuses on:
- the nature and causes of depression, and how various lifestyle factors contribute to depression
- changing behaviour, including increasing activity levels and improving sleep patterns
- cognitive therapy strategies, designed to assist in identifying and managing negative thought patterns
- conflict resolution.
Anxiety management group program
Our 12-day day patient anxiety management program for veterans is conducted two days a week over a six-week period. The program teaches practical ways to manage anxiety, including:
- understanding anxiety and its relation to trauma
- targeting the symptoms of anxiety

- an introduction to cognitive therapy strategies to assist in the identification and management of thoughts.
Anger/anxiety management group program
Our anger/anxiety management day patient program helps veterans cope with stress, when anger is excessive and disproportionate. The program shows how anger can be expressed appropriately, by looking at:
- the nature of anger and its relationship to trauma
- the role of avoidance and exposure to the triggers that provoke anger
- strategies to help manage the arousal of anger
- lifestyle factors that contribute to feelings of anger developing and being maintained
- cognitive therapy strategies designed to identify and modify the thinking that leads to anger
- communication skills and assertiveness
- ways to identify early-warning signs.
