Youth Services
Wesley Mission Newcastle Youth Services
Wesley Mission Newcastle Youth Services have been informing, educating and empowering the young people of Newcastle and the Lower Hunter since 1965.
Funded by NSW Health and the NSW Department of Community Services, we continue to provide a wide range of professional and holistic services for young people and their families in Newcastle and the Lower Hunter. All our services are free.
What do we do?
Wesley Mission Newcastle Youth Services helps young people aged 12 to 24 and their families cope with the urgent problems facing many young people today – homelessness, alcohol and drug abuse, gambling and other life-controlling issues. By taking a compassionate approach and respecting the worth of each individual, we are turning young lives around for the better.
What services do we offer?
Counselling
"Someone really cares about me."
Families and young people are invited to share their problems with our youth workers and counsellors. Our counsellors are here to listen, to guide and to provide expert advice. They offer a confidential and private service, mentoring, befriending and advising young people at risk from such issues as alcohol, drugs, anger management and problem gambling. We also offer family mediation.
Information and referral
We offer a referral and information service to other specialised services including counselling, accommodation, alcohol and other drug detoxification or rehabilitation, support programs and courses.
Case management
We provide case management for young people with high and/or complex needs. Within a holistic framework we offer crisis intervention, counselling, family and peer relationships and mediation, accommodation options and support, and assistance with problems such as alcohol and other drugs, mental health and other identified issues.
Group activities
"We really connected."
Young people can meet, socialise and overcome feelings of loneliness and isolation in our drop-in and training centre groups. We can also assist by identifying local youth support groups and networks.
