Wesley Newcastle and the Newcastle Jets give talented youth a chance

06 October 2006

Wesley Newcastle City Mission (Wesley Newcastle) and the Newcastle Jets believe financial hardship should not be a barrier to stopping young people reach their goals. Reinforcing this belief, a group of talented young football players will have the chance to attend next weeks Junior Coaching Clinic at Speers Point.

Through their Community Partnership with Wesley Newcastle, the Newcastle Jets have allocated a number of positions at the 4-day coaching clinic for talented young boys and girls who would not otherwise be able to attend.
These young people aged 12 – 14 will have the chance to learn vital football skills from some of the regions leading coaches in a fun environment.

The partnership between Wesley Newcastle and the Newcastle Jets aims to provide as many opportunities as possible for young people to learn and grow on and off the sporting fields.

“To the young people attending this coaching clinic it means much more that improving their skills on the football field. They are going to take away a greater self confidence and belief in themselves as well as an ability to communicate with others” said Scott Lyons, Community Relations Manager, Wesley Newcastle City Mission.

“We work with so many great families that have found themselves in an unfortunate position and require a little help. If it wasn’t for the Newcastle Jets and our relationship these young people would not have had this opportunity to train and mix with the guys they look up to,” said Scott Lyons.

The Newcastle Jets have been overwhelmed by the interest shown to previous coaching clinics and are excited about the opportunity to provide support to a group of talented young players who might be doing it a little tough.

“These junior coaching clinics have been very successful at showcasing some of the regions talented young players. If, through our partnership with Wesley Newcastle we can give more young people and opportunity to learn from the game of football then that is a great outcome.” said Shane Smith, Commercial / Marketing Manager, Newcastle Jets.

Date:  Monday October 9th to Thursday October 12th
Time: 9.00am – 12.00pm daily
