WUE Coffs Harbour Indigenous hospitality course

It is has been an inspiring road for 16 local Aboriginal people who are now in the 6th week of their Certificate 11 in Hospitality Operations in association with Wesley Vocational Institute.  The clients come from diverse backgrounds, including mums entering the workforce for the first  time. The attendance has been near perfect and the enthusiasm and commitment infectious.

On the 5th of June 2008, these participants presented a meal with a traditional bush tucker influence to Aboriginal Elders, representatives from Mid North Coast Area Health Service (who are offering three potential traineeships,) and others.  On the 3rd July, this group will present a meal to 50 local employers. This event will enable potential bosses the opportunity to evidence first hand real skills and abilities which will translate to their businesses.

All staff at WUE Coffs Harbour have been actively involved with participants to ensure their comfort and ease in undertaking the course.  Participants will gain hands on experience in cleaning, front of house, and kitchen operations, placing them in good stead to gain a local full time traineeship upon completion.

   We have TAA on Scope

Certificate lV in Training and Assessment (TAA 40104)
The industry standard in training qualification, commonly referred to as TAA, is the minimum standard requirement for trainers and assessors and is available as a full course or as an upgrade for those who already hold the earlier Workplace Trainer Certificate IV.

For those who have no qualifications in training or education the full program is recommended. This course is aimed at learners who can access a training and assessment environment and requires a high level of language and literacy skills, plus basic computer knowledge. The four clusters are: The Learning Environment, Workplace Assessment, Designing and Delivering Training, Facilitate Work-based Training

This qualification provides all the skills and knowledge required to deliver training in an industry area or work specific expertise, and conduct competency based assessment in a wide range of work related contexts. There are twelve core units of competency and two electives that make up the Certificate lV in Training and Assessment TAA 40104, we have packaged these and will deliver them over four clustered groups.

The shorter Upgrade course is ideal for people that already have the older Workplace Trainer BSZ40198, they can gain the upgraded qualification by attending some in-class sessions and completing some assessments, while also participating in the RPL assessment for work and qualifications previously obtained.

Over 75 Training programs so far this year

WVI has already begun or plan to begin over 75 training programs to date this year, with even more in the pipeline.  This is already surpasses the efforts of last year, with still a third of the year top go.

A large percentage (over 40%) of the training has been conducted through the various NSW Government Dept. of Education (DET) funding programs, another 20% has been through Australian Skills Vouchers programs, which is a fantastic initiative of the Federal Government’s Department of Education, Science and Training, (DEST) where individuals without their HSC or equivalent may be able to get a totally free training course in an equivalent Certificate II course.  The successful applicants can choose amongst a number of different courses of their choice.

Much of the work we deliver is based upon Aged Care training at either certificate three or four level, with Disability Training, Community Services and Children’s Services also being prominent.  One of the other more popular courses is the Business Courses Certificate Two through the Skills Vouchers program.
