GOOD WORKS TO A TEE
Led by cricketing legend Doug Walters, corporate and funds management leaders opened their golf bags and cheque books to raise more than $20,000 — in aid of Wesley Mission’s Equip Youth Mentoring Program.

HIKING TO END HUNGER
Laden with 6,000 tins of food for the poor and needy, Rover Scouts from around NSW hike over the Sydney Harbour Bridge each Christmas, bound for Wesley Mission.

STOPPING THE POVERTY CYCLE
Noreen Towers Community, a $1.7M program to end generational poverty was launched in Sydney. $200,000 was contributed by the Australian Government to kickstart the program.

BOOSTING INSTITUTE NUMBERS
The quality of the Graduate Diploma of Education introduced this year has boosted the intake of students to around 420 and further enhanced Wesley Institute’s reputation.

The unique Family Makeover Project at the newly opened Noreen Towers Community provides tailor made support using multiple resources to address specific difficulties experienced by each family.

SENDING AN SOS TO BOOKWORMS
Book lovers answered the call for help at Lifeline Sutherland’s annual book fair, buying up big time and boosting funds by over $20,000.

ENABLING DISABLED WITH JOBS
117 people with intellectual disabilities enjoy their employment in their work for Wesley Disability Employment Services in packaging, cleaning and gardening businesses that turnover $3M annually.

KEEPING KIDS CONNECTED
The ‘Keeping Connected’ program helps Central Coast children in out-of-home care feel safe and good about staying in touch with their birth families by providing a structured contact program.

CELEBRATING LOVED ONES LIVES
Those left behind after a suicide find themselves asking questions no one can answer. The annual LifeForce Memorial Service unites people who have endured this devastating experience.

REVERSING ADDICTION
The Turnaround Program from the Wesley Rehabilitation Service provides shelter and counselling for homeless men like John addicted to drugs, who are working to put their lives back on track.

LOST YOUTH FIND DIRECTION
Groundbreaking work at Lalor Park and Quakers Hill, an area with a high percentage of youth problems and truancy, uses an Internet Café and Homework Club to support youth at risk.

GIVING FULL-TIME CARERS A BREAK
The Commonwealth Respite for Carers Program looks out for the carers of people with chronic illness or disability,by taking over their duties for a period of time.

PROMOTING PACIFIC POTENTIAL
The Pacific Education Resource X-Change is a unique project that addresses issues for young people and their families from Pacific Island communities in the Canterbury-Bankstown area.

MIXING CULTURES AND EDUCATION
The Dunbar Library inthe Wesley Centre reflects the multicultural nature of our community — with the Mandarin language section growing most rapidly.

CABBING TO SHOW CARE
Taxi-driver Foster Gyimah is part of the ‘family’of carers at Gateway Cottage in Lewisham, a crisis accommodation centre for young people who are troubled or have suffered abuse. Contracted to drive the children to school and other destinations, Foster often spends hours of unpaid time waiting for these traumatised children as they work through problems. He patiently breaks through their barriers, teaching them songs and stories from his native Ghana, encouraging them to open up and face the world with trust. Wesley Mission acknowledged Foster Gyimah’s contribution toits work by awarding him the Community Awardat this year’s Spirit of Mission event.

PUTTING A PUBLIC FACE TO FAITH
Commonwealth Health Minister, Tony Abbott and Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister, Kevin Rudd attended 100 year celebrations of the Lyceum Theatre,Pitt Street, Sydney.

THROWING A LIFELINE TO LIFELINE
In the 40 years since Wesley began Lifeline Sydney, volunteers and supporters have given more than one million hours, $4M and persuaded the Federal Government to get involved.

PITCHING OPERATION HOPE CAMPS
More than 300 underprivileged children enjoy abseiling, horse riding, canoeing and other outdoor activities at 11 Vision Valley Operation Hope camps every year.

EXTENDING TRAINING SERVICES
Getting the right education can be difficult for those living in rural areas. Wesley Institute provides external courses across regional and urban NSW.

PATROLLING STREETS AFTER DARK
StreetSmart Youth Outreach is a constant presence on the streets of Mount Druitt, watching out for kids from 12 to 24 who are homelessor at risk of homelessness.

RESTORING COMPUTERS AND LIVELIHOODS
Wesley Uniting Employment helped Work for the Dole clients change more than their own lives by restoring 340 computers, monitors and printers that were donated to a Christian ministry in India.

REHABILITATING FAMILIES AFTER ADDICTION
Through Wesley’s Turnaround Recovery Program, parents trapped in a world of drug and alcohol addiction learn to regain control of their lives and reconnect with their children.

CELEBRATING MULTICULTURAL WORSHIP
Last year the Wesley International Congregation celebrated 25 years of bringing together Sydney’s different cultures in a common spirit of worship.
