Jesus, a donkey and palm wavers to mark start of Easter at Circular Quay
30 March 2007
Sydney Harbour will witness a vibrant procession of crowds singing and dancing to the sway of palm branches as Jesus rides from the Sydney Opera House through Circular Quay on a donkey in Wesley Mission’s re-enactment of the Palm Sunday story this Sunday, 1 April, 2007.
Palm Sunday will come alive as students from Wesley Institute in period costume accompany the procession, which travels along the harbour foreshore to First Fleet Park.
The procession begins at 3.30pm just near the gates of the Botanic Gardens adjacent to the Sydney Opera House. From there it will proceed across the steps of the Opera House, along the foreshore around Circular Quay then into First Fleet Park in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
A short service will follow at First Fleet Park, marking the beginning of Holy Week and Easter Mission. The service begins at 4pm and includes songs performed by the Wesley Institute choir and a brief question and answer time about Palm Sunday with the Rev Don Everhart and Rev Keith Garner. The service will close at 4.30pm.
