Launch of major report on mental health

29 April 2010

Mental health should be everybody’s business. That’s the message from Wesley Mission when it launches its landmark report on mental health this Sunday, 2 May, 2010.

Keeping minds well: Mental health is everybody’s business is a comprehensive 84 page report based on a survey of more than 2000 people conducted in January this year. The Wesley Report’s major findings cover:

  • The far reaching social and personal impact of mental illness: who it affects
  • Risk factors and mental health
  • Social stigma and mental illness
  • Community attitudes: mental illness compared to physical illness
  • Who is the first port of call for help
  • What groups are not seeking help
  • The extent of undiagnosed cases
  • The cost of delaying treatment
  • Prevention and protective behaviours

Date: Sunday 2 May, 2010

Time: 11.30am

Where: Wesley Centre, 220 Pitt Street, Sydney

Mental health is an issue close to Wesley Mission’s heart. It is an issue which cuts across all of Wesley Mission’s service provision from child and family services, its work among the homeless to those who need financial counselling.

Wesley Mission also operates Lifeline Sydney and Sutherland taking more than 20,000 emergency calls a year while its LifeForce suicide prevention program has trained more than 15,000 people in suicide prevention as well as hospital and psychiatric services.
