The Gordon Moyes Library

About the Library

The Gordon Moyes Library is named in honour of Rev The Hon Dr Gordon Moyes AC, MLC as a testimony to his bible-centred preaching and teaching. During his long time as Superintendent of Wesley Mission (1979-2005), Dr Moyes always insisted that the Word of God is entirely sufficient and infallible for our knowledge of God. His writing and preaching was always filled with the latest results of evangelical scholarship on the Bible. This library honours his personal contribution to biblical scholarship and his ability to communicate the gospel clearly to everyone.

However, the Gordon Moyes Library is more than a theological resource. Its collections feature a strong specialisation in the arts, providing extensive resources in the dialogue for which Wesley Institute is celebrated, and reflecting Dr Moyes' commitment to the integration of arts and theology in the communication of the gospel. He has been the great pioneer of using all media in communicating the gospel.

The naming of this library after Dr Moyes also marks his unswerving commitment to Wesley Institute. Because of Dr Moyes' personal support for the Institute and because of the enormous generosity of Wesley Mission as our benefactor, Wesley Institute has expanded to over 500 students. Dr Moyes, along with the Mission, has stood behind this unique college in its role of presenting the gospel to Australian society.

The Library contains over 45,000 books, numerous print and electronic journal titles, a comprehensive classical music CD collection, and a growing video/DVD collection. The Library of the Australian College of Ministries has been incorporated into the Gordon Moyes Library.
