The Rev Dr Keith Garner looks at Jesus’ words to the Pharisees in Matthew 23. Here Jesus criticises them for making religion a burden for the people they lead. Jesus explains that religion is meant to free people as they open their hearts to God, rather than relying on rules and regulations. In Jesus’ call to his disciples to consider carefully what religion is truly about, we also have been called to consider religion as it was meant to be: a blessing.
