Dr Matthew Davies specialises in the pharmacological and psychological treatments of mood, psychotic and anxiety disorders. He completed his medical training in 2001 at the University of Sydney. He has a varied training experience including General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychiatry of Old Age, Forensic Psychiatry, Drug and Alcohol as well as research at the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety Disorders (CRUfAD) at St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst with Prof. Gavin Andrews. Matthew currently works as in private practice at rooms in Kogarah, Hurstville and Rozelle as well as a Visiting Medical Officer at Wesley Private Hospital, Kogarah; and Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

Dr David Hughes, Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Hughes is a Consultant Psychiatrist who completed his medical training at Monash University with first class honours, graduating in 1992. He obtained his Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2002. Subsequently, he has specialised in providing care to people suffering from mental health problems across the spectrum from late adolescence to early old age. He has experience working both within the public and private sectors in the South East of Sydney and has an extensive network of relationships with other health care providers in the area. He values the opportunity to engage with patients and their families to provide comprehensive care using a range of treatment strategies in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Dr John Kearney, Clinical Psychologist

Dr John Kearney studied at the University of Sydney; he was awarded First Class Honours in Psychology, and subsequently completed a Master of Science and a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology.

He is the Director of Psychological Services for Wesley Hospital Kogarah, and also oversees Wesley’s War Veteran Services. He is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society, The College of Clinical Psychologists and The College of Sport and Exercise Psychology.
Dr Kearney has a busy private practice in Kogarah, where he specialises in the treatment of mood, anxiety, anger and trauma related disorders. He has a special interest in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, perinatal mental health and the use of psychology in sport. Additionally, Dr Kearney is skilled in the assessment of cognitive and memory functioning and impairment, including the provision of comprehensive reports of assessment outcomes.
Dr Kearney has a good working relationship with several Sydney Universities, and is currently a staff member in the Department of Psychology at Charles Sturt University. He is committed to the use of evidence-based practice, and is an adherent to the discipline of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Dr Adrian Keller, Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Adrian Keller is a general adult and forensic psychiatrist with more than 20 years experience practising psychiatry. His main clinical interests are in the areas of mood disorders (e.g. depression and bipolar disorder); psychotic disorders (e.g. schizophrenia); anxiety disorders and personality disorders. He also treats substance use disorders (e.g. alcohol abuse), especially when it co-occurs with another mental disorder. He is comfortable in treating patients with more complex psychiatric problems, such as intellectual disability with mental health issues.

Dr Keller has always maintained an appointment as a psychiatrist at one or more public hospitals within NSW, so has an excellent understanding of the broader mental health system. He is currently a conjoint lecturer in the School of Psychiatry with the University of New South Wales.

Dr Keller is also available for medico-legal report writing, either civil or criminal forensic psychiatry reports. Due to the varied nature of such reports, it is best to check the specific request with Dr Keller prior to making an appointment.

Dr Jenny McGoldrick specialises in the pharmacological and psychological treatments of mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders. She worked particularly in Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Palliative Care, before completing Specialist Psychiatry training. Dr McGoldrick currently works in private practice at Wesley Hospital Kogarah and English St Consulting Rooms. She has particular interest and expertise in ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). She is a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at St George Private Hospital Kogarah, and also works as a locum VMO at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

Dr. Kiran Nair is a specialist psychiatrist with experience across a range of inpatient and outpatient settings both within Australia and overseas. He has an interest in general adult mental health problems and, in particular, he subspecialises in the treatment of alcohol and other addiction disorders. 

This includes comprehensive assessment and treatment of individuals with their physical and/or mental health as a result of the use of alcohol or any other substances. His focus is on the care of the individual from detoxification to maintenance of long term recovery.  

Dr Nair provides treatment in both inpatient (hospital) and outpatient basis. In addition to his private psychiatric practice at Wesley Hospital Kogarah, he is an Addiction Psychiatrist in the public sector for one of the major Drug & Alcohol Services within NSW Health.

Dr Pilsky obtained his medical degree from Monash University in Melbourne in 1998. He completed psychiatry training in Sydney in 2006 obtaining advanced qualifications in general adult and forensic psychiatry and Masters in Psychiatry from the University of Sydney. In 2008 whilst working in Prince of Wales hospital Dr Pilsky was appointed Conjoint Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales.

Dr Pilsky has a broad range of clinical interests in general psychiatry and specialises in assessment and management of adolescents, adults and families. He maintains a prolific private practice in Kogarah and Caringbah. Dr Pilsky regularly admits patients to Wesley Hospital Kogarah, the only private psychiatric facility in the south of Sydney. In 2008 he was appointed a Medical Director of Wesley Hospital Kogarah. Dr Pilsky has lectured amongst general practitioners in the area of treatment of mood disorders and perinatal psychiatry. He regularly participates in continuing medical education and is passionate about improving patient outcomes via supporting general practitioners and other health professionals.

Dr Pilsky believes in closely collaborating with patients and their next of kin to achieve best results via the most appropriate combination of evidence based treatments including empathic listening, medication, individual and group therapy.

Prof John B. Saunders, Consultant Physician and Medical Director

John B. Saunders is a Professor and Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine, with appointments at the University of Queensland and University of Sydney, and with several private hospital groups. He graduated in pharmacology and then medicine from the University of Cambridge, and undertook specialist medical training in internal medicine, gastroenterology and addiction medicine. His career as a clinician, service director, researcher and academic in addictive disorders extends back over 40 years, and he has extensive clinical experience in hospital and community settings. He has been a member of many state and federal Australian government committees, including the Australian National Council on Drugs (2001—07). He has worked with the World Health Organization since 1981 and was responsible for developing the AUDIT Questionnaire. He is a member of WHO’s Expert Advisory Panel on Substance Abuse and the ICD 11 Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders Workgroup. He has published four books and over 330 scientific papers, reviews and book chapters. He is an ISI highly cited scientist.

A/Prof Chanaka Wijeratne, Consultant Psychiatrist

A/Prof Wijeratne graduated in medicine from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He trained in psychiatry at Concord Hospital, Sydney, and the Maudsley Hospital, London. He then undertook a postgraduate research degree in the area of fatigue. His current positions are Senior Psychiatrist, Academic Department for Old Age Psychiatry, Prince of Wales Hospital; and Associate Professor (Adjunct), School of Medicine Sydney, University of Notre Dame Australia. He was a founding Board member of Capacity Australia.

His areas of specific clinical interest and expertise are: Mood disorders; Cognitive/neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease; Assessment of capacity (testamentary capacity, power of attorney & guardian); Assessment of capacity to practise in healthcare practitioners (consultant to the NSW Medical Council’s Health Program, and consultant to the NSW Nursing and Midwifery Council); Accredited assessor of permanent psychiatric impairment for MAA and WorkCover.

He has expertise in psychopharmacology, electroconvulsive therapy (including previously acting as the ECT service director at two teaching hospitals), and psychological therapy (in particular, he has received supervision in family systems theory). He is an active researcher who has received several research grants, and is regularly invited to speak at professional conferences.

Dr Zhen Zhang is a general adult and forensic psychiatrist, a fellow of Royal Australia New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He completed the advanced training in forensic psychiatry and is a Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist Certified Forensic Psychiatrist. He also has a master degree of Forensic Mental Health from the University of New South Wales. Prior to psychiatric training, he obtained a master degree of Community Health from the University of New South Wales. Dr Zhang finished his general psychiatry training mostly in the Prince of Wales Hospital, following which he entered the advanced forensic psychiatry training through Justice Health System.

Using combination of pharmacological and psychological therapy, Dr Zhang treats diverse mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar affective disorder, psychosis, personality disorders, drug and alcohol issues. In addition to clinical psychiatry, Dr Zhang also holds the position of senior forensic psychiatrist with the NSW State Wide Court Liaison Services.

Amanda has a broad range of clinical experience in both public and private settings. She is passionate in assisting patients develop understanding of self and skills to change behaviour/achieve their therapeutic goals.

She has a special interest in the treatment of borderline personality disorder, complex PTSD, trauma and attachment issues. Amanda has expertise in both group and individual dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT). She is also interested in treatment of dissociation, addiction and OCD.

Amanda is experienced in a number of evidence-based therapies including CBT, ACT and Schema Therapy.

She completed a masters of suicidology at Griffith University in 2015 and is passionate around the study, treatment and prevention of suicide. Amanda has experience in acute mental health and disaster response teams.
