Origins

Wesley Brighter Futures works alongside families where there is an identified risk that is impacting a child’s safety, welfare or wellbeing. The program is designed to support families to stay together—to prevent the escalation of concerns for children transitioning into the statutory child protection domain.

Brighter Futures is a Government funded program which Wesley Mission has delivered throughout Western Sydney in partnership with a number of community based organisations since 2006. The program has grown and developed over time, with Brighter Futures now standing as a  cutting-edge voluntary prevention program that supports families to address and resolve concerns for children via strengths based practice, individually tailored case plans and ‘wrap around’ service delivery. This approach enables the program to meet the needs of each individual child and their unique family circumstances while empowering families to find their own ‘best way forward’.

In 2006 Wesley Mission became the lead agency in the Sydney Metro West area for the Brighter Futures program. In this lead agency role, alongside our community partners (grassroot services known in the community and at the heart of their communities), Brighter Futures has, to date, supported hundreds of families through this innovative program.

Commitment to care

Wesley Mission has reached out to families and children since 1893 when we opened our first home for abandoned children, Waverley House, in Woolloomooloo.

Since then we have pioneered a broad range of services for children and families to help them in whatever circumstances they are in.

Wesley Mission is committed to:

  • offering struggling families support through counselling, mediation, financial and legal support and crisis accommodation
  • building strong and resilient families by teaching parenting skills, providing child development programs, out of school hours care and offering early intervention work
  • helping vulnerable children and young people thrive and reach their potential through foster care, mentoring and holiday camps
  • connecting with teenagers through a range of support services in the areas of substance abuse, employment, life issues and accommodation.

Wesley Mission is dedicated to strengthening families and is committed to positively impacting the perpetual cycle of disadvantage that children and families may experience.
