Fair for a good cause

The Annual Wesley Fair is back and it will again raise money for a good cause.

This big market fair brings together many of Wesley Mission’s supporters, such as volunteers, corporate groups and generous donors, to raise much-needed funds for people doing it tough.

The 2019 Wesley Fair will raise money for the total refurbishment of the Wesley Edward Eagar Centre, which opened its doors in the late 1970s to support people facing homelessness in Sydney.

The redevelopment of the centre will provide more than just emergency accommodation to both women and men in need. In addition to a refurbishment of the facility, this major upgrade will include the implementation of a new model of care to focus on the long-term impact and positive change Wesley Mission can have in people’s lives. The range and level of services offered will be intensified to gain a greater understanding of each person’s needs, with a focus on improving client outcomes.

“Wesley Mission has a deep knowledge of homelessness but it has become increasingly difficult to help those coming to the current Wesley Edward Eagar Centre because people have growing complex needs. The building is no longer fit for purpose. To better support people facing homelessness who need crisis accommodation and support means changing the building itself and the way our team works inside it,” said Wesley Mission’s CEO, the Rev Keith V Garner AM.

Homelessness is, unfortunately, on the rise across Australia, with the largest increase in Sydney at 48 per cent. The holistic approach of the new Wesley Edward Eagar Centre is needed now more than ever.

All proceeds from the 2019 Wesley Fair will support this important project to help more people in need.
