Sadly, however, current harsh economic conditions are leading to 10,000 people seeking urgent support per month.1 When Alisha* first came to us, she was alone, pregnant and had no home. She’d recently escaped a violent relationship after many years feeling financially trapped by her abuser. She carried the few belongings she had with her everywhere she went. She’d lost all hope and felt she had nowhere to turn....
But then she found us. We were able to offer her protection and comfort in a cosy home with warm blankets, a place she felt safe to leave her belongings. And more than that, we introduced her to the welcoming and close-knit community that makes up her housing complex, so she quickly built up a support network of friends. She hasn’t felt alone since.
Alisha’s faith in humanity was restored through the kindness of community. But there remain many more people like Alisha in desperate situations.
