"I felt like I was sinking in quicksand.”

Abigail* was sinking fast. She’d just fled her violent marriage. She had no money. No home. And her young son, Max*, was so traumatised by the violence he’d seen and experienced that he was refusing to go to school.

“I didn’t need help in just one section of my life,” Abigail shares. “I needed help with everything.”

Thanks to the kindness of people just like you, Wesley Mission were there to help her. Her caseworker, Mikayla, secured accommodations, food vouchers, clothes and even helped navigate the Family Court system so Abigail could get full custody of her son.

While Abigail knows that she still has a long way to go, she is confident that she now has tools to face the challenges ahead:

“When I first came to Wesley, I felt like I was in quicksand. Now, it’s like I’ve got my boots on. It’s still muddy and hard, but I’m not sinking anymore.

“I’m ready for the next chapter to begin.”

Please give generously today to help another family like Abigail’s escape violence and find their way back to solid ground.

No family should be left to sink through the cracks

45% of women and children who seek homelessness assistance do so due to family and domestic violence.1 Many, like Abigail, will be single parents who have fled their violent homes with young children in tow.

But as the rising cost of living pushes more people to the brink, homelessness services are being stretched to their limits. This leaves too many families facing a painful choice between returning to their violent homes or living out on the streets.

Your gift today can help provide the loving and practical support a family needs to get back on their feet this winter.

But hundreds of families still need your help.
