Wesley Mission says Murphy Report must be fully implemented
Wesley Mission welcomes the Government’s acknowledgement gambling advertising is causing harm, especially to children, warning proposed partial restrictions stop short of what the evidence demands.
Australians will still be exposed to a flood of gambling ads across sport, online platforms and broadcast. This is compromise, not real reform.
The evidence is clear: only a comprehensive, phased ban on all gambling advertising will meaningfully reduce harm. That is the standard set by the Murphy Report and the standard that should be delivered.
Gambling harm is real and rising, impacting families, finances and fuelling domestic and family violence.
This is a positive step however it falls short.
Wesley Mission is calling on the Government to go further and commit to a full ban on gambling advertising.
