Michael and Nicholas know their way around a kitchen. The two residents from our disability homes rolled up their sleeves for the My Cooking Rules Flavour & Flair Festival 2026. And they didn't just take part, they took home certificates, trophies and the kind of smiles that say everything.
A kitchen where every skill shines
The Flavour & Flair Festival is an inclusive cooking showcase built on a simple idea: talent in the kitchen that lets everyone shine. Wesley Mission was proud to support the day, which brought together competitors in front of a panel of Accredited Practising Dietitians.
Michael and Nicholas rose to the challenge in style. In the savoury round, they turned out a delicious pizza. For dessert, they impressed the judges with their own cheesecake creations. By the time certificates and trophies were handed out, the pair were beaming with pride.

More than a competition
Days like this are what inclusion really looks like: ability and community, all in one kitchen.
This is what “care that goes further, because every life matters” looks like in practice. It's a commitment we make in a support plan, in a therapy session, and in community events like this one, where two of our residents brought their passion and skills to the force.
A huge thank you to the organisers for creating such a warm, welcoming space, and to the panel of dietitians for their encouragement throughout the day.
