Salsa and smiles: Leslie’s passion for dance lives on as a tutor

For the past decade, Leslie (pictured above, second from the left) has worked as a graphic designer. But in 2024, she found herself longing for the days when she taught salsa in Colombia.

Every Thursday, during work hours, Leslie teaches a salsa and Latin dance class at Wesley School for Seniors.

“I decided to return to teaching through the ‘Wesley [Mission] Family.’ I even asked my boss for permission to take a few hours from my full-time job to share this knowledge with the community.

“It has been one of the best decisions I’ve made – I truly feel happy, and I can confidently say that this is the most fun day of my week.”

Passionate about sharing her love for dance with others, Leslie is grateful that her workplace supports her commitment to give back.

“The most rewarding part is seeing the joy and excitement on my students' faces – their smiles, energy and sense of accomplishment make every session truly special.”

One memorable moment for Leslie was when a student, initially unsure of her abilities, left the class feeling amazed at what she had achieved.

“We often underestimate ourselves, but dance helps us realise we're more capable than we think.”
