About the program

Wesley Packing has been supporting employees living with a disability to achieve growth and satisfaction in a meaningful workplace for over 50 years. Focussing on the business’ supported employees through role modelling, training and support, Wesley Packaging provides contract packing services to a diverse group of customers. With Therapeutic Goods Administration and Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority Licences, compliance includes detailed completion of documentation daily.

A fast paced and dedicated commercial business, the service retains a focus on providing real employment for close to 80 employees with intellectual disabilities. We do all the good we can to support our employees to develop skills, enjoy a socially inclusive workplace, and fulfil their workplace and social goals.

About the role

Our service is looking to employ a Supervisor to join our team dedicated to fostering the vocational lives of our supported employees. You will have experience or an interest in working with people with intellectual disabilities and supporting them to achieve goals. You will have good literacy and numeracy skills, and be able to troubleshoot and adapt daily to the many challenges of this role. Whilst running a small production room, or close grouping of production rooms, you will be ensuring each packaging job is fulfilled to customer expectations and in line with regulatory requirements. You may be supervising an individual employee, a group of employees, or providing support to the Training & Placement Coordinator to prepare employees for competency and wage assessments.

Completion of documentation is an important part of this role, both for the development of our employees and the completion of accredited packaging tasks.

  • have a passion for supporting people living with a disability to achieve their maximum potential
  • work quickly and with a keen eye for detail
  • maintain a clean and ordered workspace
  • support employees with often challenging behaviours to complete their work
  • follow direction from the Production Coordinator and/or the Production Manager.

Essential criteria

  • experience or ability to work with people with an intellectual disability
  • good literacy and numeracy skills
  • able to complete detailed paperwork with an eye for detail
  • high regard for Work Health and Safety, particularly around manual handling
  • ability and willingness to complete GMP training annually
  • ability and willingness to complete First Aid Training
  • ability and willingness to perform repetitive and manual tasks
  • ability to identify faulty goods and to bring to the attention of management
  • hold or willing to obtain within 12 months of commencement a Certificate 3 in Disabilities (or equivalent)
  • hold or willing to obtain within 12 months of commencement a Forklift Licence, and a willingness and ability to operate.

 Desirable criteria

  • experience working with people with an intellectual disability
  • experience working in a GMP environment
  • current class C manual drivers’ licence.

Remuneration

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the Supported Employment Services Award Grade 7. Salary packaging and First Aid Allowance (when qualified) is available.
